Jonas Shaende

As the Deputy Secretary at the New York State Senate, Finance Cmte, Jonas Shaende leads and oversees several teams of analysts and researchers who provide economic policy advice and data-driven solutions to the legislative branch. Jonas has over 20 years of experience in the fields of economics, finance, and data science, working in both public and private sectors across various domains and geographies.

His core competencies include macroeconomics, political economy, development economics, international economics and finance, and data analysis and modeling. Jonas leverages his expertise and passion for these topics to inform and influence policy decisions that affect the lives and well-being of millions of New Yorkers. He also regularly shares his insights and perspectives on financial markets and the economy as a commentator for Voice of America and RTVI International as well as other outlets like Bloomberg, Law360, CNN, The Economist among others. Jonas holds a PhD in Economics from the New School for Social Research, and he has taught economics and finance at several academic institutions.
